cali trip: day 2, part 1
Ready for installment number two of Rawson vacation? I am. To fairly warn you, I struggled to narrow these down. This was my favorite day of our trip. We said “Sianara” to the busy traffic of the city and took our time winding up the Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Barbara, the land of fairies and unicorns. Not really. But no less dreamy.
This trip within a trip began in Malibu. Who wants to move there? I do. I had read about a certain beach around there that was more secluded and rugged, less crowded, ya know…my kind of beach. We stopped to have a look, but didn’t want to stay long because the parking area was 8 bucks, and being the cheapos that we are, we aren’t about to pay that much for a fifteen minute scenic overlook. At this point we are thinking, “Hmm. This is nice. Let’s hurry.”
I start down the path to the beach, trying to reassure David we probably won’t get a ticket or anything if we just go quick.
Then I round the corner and see this:
And then this:
I’m thinking, “Let’s pay the $8. Let’s stay all day!”
We did not stay all day. *Sigh* We decided to come back later at sunset and enjoy it in a different light. Besides, we had Santa Barbara to get to! Every part of this day was beautiful. The drive was just as breathtaking as any view we stopped to take in. If you have never driven this coastal road, find a way to do it. I’m thirsty for more. We only covered a fraction of it! We would round corners of the highway and just be in awe of how beautiful God made California. Yes, the Midwest is pretty in its own way. But for some reason, He made other areas of the earth stunning. I don’t know why. Add it to the growing list of Things I’m Aware I Don’t Understand.
