we took a trip: part 1
Yes, David and I did indeed go to Vacationland. I have wanted to go to Maine for as long as I can remember. I used to beg my parents for a New England vacation, and we just never ended up there. I was stoked when David and I found reasonable tickets and decided to go. Plus we were in serious need of some time off. Before we left, a friend wrote on facebook of her own trip there that “Maine is a treat for the senses” and I couldn’t agree more. Even more so for a couple of Nebraskans who are used to seeing such very different things from day to day. Our first stop: Portland, Maine. (You can also see photos of Portland in the latest J.Crew catalog, so obviously, it’s cool, trendy & hipster). I couldn’t stop snapping photos of the interesting typography there. ‘Twas everywhere.
This is my new favorite picture of my love.
Of course, I have to talk about the gelato. We had it twice, thank-you-very-much. Pictured here, behind the chocolatey fudge one, burnt sugar & almond gelato with sea salt caramel and Ghiradelli chocolate pieces. Yeah.
On day two, we woke up early to catch the Portland Head Light before leaving town. Normally, a title like “most photographed lighthouse in North America” would turn me off a little, you know, because of its mass popularity. In this case, it’s most popular for a reason. It’s situated in a sprawling, green park with amazing ocean views and jagged rocks and everything you think of when you think “Maine”.
In our limited travels, we have succumbed to the following standard shot that David takes of both of us on the point and shoot. They are not my favorite. My face gets dangerously close to being cropped off on most of them due to our height difference, and ninety percent of the pictures I have of us share this exact same pose. That said, it’s kind of funny to see them this way – together in all these great places. 🙂
Stay tuned for Part 2. And Parts 3, 4 and however many it takes to get through my massive amount of photos.
