celebrate your friends

Have you guys seen the Modern Family episode “Slow Down Your Neighbors”? That’s what that title reminds me of.
I recently had reason to celebrate a good friend. She got married last weekend, and in July I got to help with a shower for her. I love how showers get to focus so specifically on one person, the things she loves, the things going on in her life. It’s such a unique opportunity to give someone your complete attention and communicate to them that they are special and that they play a beautiful and unique role in your life. Such is the case with Jessica. Here are some glimpses of the shindig we put together for her.

I thought I’d share a little tutorial on the cookie bag favors I made for this. I saw these online, but wanting to keep the budget at a minimum, opted for the DIY route. Allison, who planned most of the shower and was my partner in planning this one a while back, snagged these Kraft paper bags from her work, and I used white craft paint to add my own dots.

After covering the front with dots, I folded the top of the sack over and painted dots on the flap, finishing each dot that I had covered up, so they lined up along the fold.

I punched 1″ circles out of purple cardstock and wrote the flavor of each cookie on the circles with a gold paint pen, then attached the circles to the center of the flap with gold polka dot washi tape. I let the washi tape overlap half of the flap, so it would seal the bag when the flap was taped closed. I did all this a few days before the shower so I didn’t have to worry about it the day of. However, I waited until that morning to fill each bag with cookies of the appropriate flavor, in order to keep them fresh. Then I sealed each bag, and placed them on a decorative tray near the door at the shower so guests could grab one as they left. Oh yeah, and be sure to make extra so you can take them home with you afterwards to enjoy with a glass of milk. 🙂
