blog book and a confession

First thing’s first. There’s a sweet giveaway going on and I want to win! And maybe you do, too, so I am letting you know about it. How nice, right? It brings up a relevant issue for me, considering that just this week, I kicked off the new face of my blog and have officially begun my love of typing out my rambling thoughts and sharing them with the world. I hope for it to be:

  • a motivator for me to continually share my life with others
  • a place to tell stories about God and how he loves me enough to do amazing things in my life
  • a reason to take pictures
  • a place to store both great and mundane memories

And thanks to one of my favorite and most inspiring bloggers, I have discovered there’s a unique way to tactile-ize your blog! And that’s where the giveaway comes in. Jami of Hello! from the Nato’s is doing a giveaway for a blog book that looks pretty stinking amazing. Her blog is also totally worth putting into book form. Mine? Not so much yet, but I have an amazing friend who this would be perfect for, so here’s hoping I win it for her. My luck with giveaways is pretty…well…it’s not good. But I guess today is a day for optimism. So head on over there and check it out, and if you’re in the mood to give me some competition, enter to win a free blog book! (Be careful, you are sure to get hooked on her hillarious blog if you stay long.)
Moving on to the confession. It’s about the plates. I’ll start by saying thank you, friends who have read my blog and told me you did! You moved up on my ranked list of friends (that may or may not exist….) Funny story, though. I have come to believe that I have two types of friends: those who have an accurate estimation of how artistic I am, and those who do not. If you thought, when I showed pics of the cookie plates I gave my mother for Christmas, that I did, in fact, paint the design on the plates, then you fall into the category of Friends Who Overestimate My Creativity. Thanks, I’m flattered, but let’s not imagine that I am so well put together that I had the time, patience, and skill to sit down and paint flowers and swirls on a couple of plates the month before Christmas. Yeeeaaaah, right.

In fact, I chose to do that project because I knew all I had to do was buy two things and glue them together. Could it get any easier? I think not. Even you can do this. Believe in yourself. (Cheesy comment of the day? Check.)
For those of you who have little self esteem and think you need the tutorial, here’s the gist of it:
1. Buy plate.
2. Buy candlestick.
3. Spend too much money on fancy glue at the hardware store – my overpriced glue of choice was the LocTite version of Gorilla glue. Any overpriced glue will work.
4. Try to find the center, so they don’t fall over when you put food on them. No need for a party foul.
5. Glue the plate to the candlestick. Put the heaviest books in your house on the candlestick until it bonds.

There, you are done! Maybe people who see your plates will think you painted them, like me. It’s your choice whether you tell them you did or not. Happy gluing!
